Schwarz, Bofa Earn USTFCCCAA Indoor Awards
March 9, 2010

SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University's Toby Schwarz has been named the men's west region Coach of the Year, while Emmanuel Bofa was selected as the west region Track Athlete of the Year for the 2010 Division III indoor track and field season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.

The USTFCCCA selects the top track athlete, field athlete, assistant and coach for men and women in each of its eight regions in Division III track and field.

Toby Schwarz is the regional coach of the year for the second year in a row. In his 14th season as Whitworth’s head coach, Schwarz has the Whitworth Pirates aiming for another strong finish to the 2010 indoor track & field campaign. Schwarz’s student-athletes achieved four qualifying marks this season, and three Pirate men will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this week. Last season he led the Whitworth men to a third place finish at the NCAA DIII Indoor meet.

With an automatic qualifying mark of 1:53.03, Bofa (Sr., Puyallup, Wash.) is the sixth-ranked competitor in the 800 meters entering this week's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Bofa achieved that mark in only two competitive indoor races this year. He finished as the national runner up in 800 at last year's Indoor championships and is the two-time NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field champion in the 800 distance.

The 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships are this weekend at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
