PULLMAN, Wash. - Whitworth University is still working into the 2010 indoor track and field season, but the Pirates were not afraid to battle against the biggest and best of the Inland Northwest on Saturday at the Washington State Cougar Invitational. Whitworth was the only NCAA Division III school in a competition that included the hosts, Utah State, Idaho, Montana and Eastern Washington. Jeff Kintner had the best individual performance for the Pirates, finishing fifth in the shot put with a distance of 52'-6.5". His mark was an improvement on his NCAA Division III provisional qualier from last weekend. Cody Stelzer took 7th in the high jump (6-6.25) and 9th in the long jump (21-2). Steven Acosta had season-bests while finishing 9th in the 800 (2:00.94) and 15th in the mile (4:31.04). Amy Wyatt represented the small women's contingent well, finishing 8th in the shot put (37-1.25). Next weekend the Pirates will travel to the Boise area for the Bronco Indoor Invitational in Nampa, Idaho. |
