Whitworth Wins Two Events at Runners' Soul Open

Emmanuel Bofa

MOSCOW, Idaho - Defending NCAA Division III champion Emmanuel Bofa picked up where he left off in his first meet of the 2010 season as he won the 800 meter run on Saturday at the Runner's Soul Open hosted by the University of Idaho.

Bofa, a senior who won the DIII outdoor 800 and was runner-up at the NCAA DIII indoor championships in the same event in 2009, won the 800 meters on Saturday with a time of 1:54.80. There were 56 runners in the event. Two other Pirates finished in the top ten of that event as Steven Acosta was 6th (1:55.93) and Tyler Alsin was 9th (1:57.09).

One night after winning the high jump at the Vandal Invitational, Cody Stelzer tied for second in the same event after clearing 6'-8". Stelzer also finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 21'-4".

Aaron Jenkins was fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:30.94), while Michael Nahl was fifth in the shot put (49'-6.25") for the Bucs.

On the women's side Joy Shufeldt and Tonya Turner finished 1-2 in the 5,000 meters. Shufeldt's winning time was 18:20.43, while turner crossed in 18:40.75.

Whitworth is now off for two weeks and will return to competition February 19th at the Vandal Collegiate back in Moscow.
