MOSCOW, Idaho - Whitworth University's Cody Stelzer jumped to victory in the high jump on Friday night at the prestegious University of Idaho Vandal indoor track and field invitational.

Stelzer, a senior and the defending NCAA Division III indoor champion in the high jump, cleared 2.05 meters (6'-8.75"). His mark tied two other jumpers, but Stelzer was awarded the win based on number of misses. Stelzer's mark is a strong NCAA Division III provisional qualifying height.

Jeff Kintner improved his own NCAA Division III provisional mark in the shot put on Friday night. His mark of 16.27 meters (53'-4.5") was good enough for fifth place out of nine competitors. Kintner was the only non-Division I or professional thrower in the field.

Ron Whitley finished 7th of 10 in the indoor discus with a mark of 42.41 meters (139'-2").

The trio were the only Pirates invited to compete in one the Vandal Invitational, one of the strongest annual indoor meets in the Northwest.

On Saturday Whitworth will have several more competitors at the Runners' Soul Open, also hosted by the University of Idaho in Moscow.
