Complete box score and play by play SPOKANE, Wash . -- Three players reached double figures in kills to lead 20th-ranked Whitworth College to a 30-22, 30-25, 30-19 win over visiting Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest Conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Fieldhouse.
Natalie Danielson had 15 kills, Julie Marsh had 14 and Brittney Bower added 10 kill for the Pirates (15-2 overall, 10-0 NWC), who won their tenth straight match. Bekah Hornor finished with 47 assists and Whitney Murphy had 16 digs for the Bucs. Andrea Chase led L&C with six kills, while Nicki Smith added five. Denielle Espejo had 14 assists and Jessica Morales finished with 12 digs to lead the Pioneers (6-12, 2-8). L&C led the opening game 10-7 before the Pirates went on a 9-1 run to take a 16-11 advantage. The Pioneers got back to as close as 20-18 before Whitworth put the game away. The second game was a see-saw battle. L&C took a 7-4 lead on a Pirate ball handling error. Whitworth responded with a 10-1 run and then led 18-12 on an L&C attack error. The Pioneers pulled back into a tie at 25-25 before Whitworth finished the game with five straight points. Whitworth jumped to a 6-1 lead in the third game and the Pirates were never threatened. Whitworth returns to action again next Friday when the Pirates play at 10th-ranked Linfield in a key Northwest Conference contest. L&C will also return to action next Friday when the Pioneers host PLU. |
