Whitworth Runs Past Lewis-Clark State 3-0

SPOKANE, Wash . -- Whitworth College swept past visiting Lewis-Clark State College 30-12, 30-17, 30-19 in a non-conference volleyball match on Friday night by blistering the court with a .416 hitting percentage while holding the visitors to -0.019 hitting.

Natalie Danielson led the Pirates (4-1) with 15 kills while hitting .480 in the match. She added three assisted blocks. Carey Guhlke came off of the bench for a career high nine kills and .438 hitting clip. Julie Marsh added seven kills and led the Bucs with 11 digs. Rebekah Hornor dished 36 assists for Whitworth.

Marie Lauder led LCSC with eight kills, while Julie Maciboba added seven kills. Stephanie Wayt and Julie Nebeker each dug seven balls and Wayt finished with 15 assists.

Whitworth used a 12-1 run early in the first game to open a 15-3 advantage. Brittney Bower and Danielson each had three kills during the run. Similarly, the Pirates used a 10-1 run in the second game to open up a 15-5 lead. The Warriors never got closer than eight points the rest of the game. Whitworth also controlled the third set, leading by as many as 15 points (25-11).

Lewis-Clark State will travel to Dillon, Montana for this weekend's University of Montana-Western tournament.

Whitworth will play two matches this Saturday. The Pirates will take on Shoreline Community College in an exhibition at 1:00 pm at the University of Puget Sound. Whitworth will then play UPS at 5:00 pm in a non-conference counting match-up. UPS is currently 2-1 after hosting its own tournament last weekend. The Loggers defeated Loras College and Whitman College, but lost to defending NWC champion Pacific Lutheran. Whitworth and UPS met twice in conference play last season and the Pirates won both meetings.
