Complete box score and play by play TACOMA, Wash . -- (From UPS Sports Information Office) Whitworth College gained a measure of revenge for an early season non-conference loss at the University of Puget Sound, defeating the Loggers 30-19, 25-30, 30-19, 30-14 in Northwest Conference volleyball action at Memorial Fieldhouse on Friday night. Whitworth's Natalie Danielson collected a match-high 16 kills while Julie Marsh and Carey Guhlke added 14 and 11 kills respectively. Rebekah Hornor dished out 41 assists on the night for Whitworth. UPS defeated Whitworth in three games on September 10th. Jessica McPhee-Hayes had 34 assists for the Loggers with Jamie Eggers and Kayla Roof with 10 kills each. The Pirates out-hit UPS in game one, collecting 18 kills to just 10 kills for the Loggers as Whitworth led from start to finish behind the five kills of Danielson. Puget Sound answered back in game two as Nikki Esposito had seven kills. The Loggers had a commanding 25-16 lead before the Pirates made a big push. An Esposito kill closed out game two for the Loggers. The combination of Danielson and Rebekah Hornor for Whitworth was too strong in game three as they combined for nine of the team's 17 kills, pushing the Pirates to victory 30- 19. The Loggers collected just eight kills in the game.. Game four was all Pirates once again with aggressive attacks led by Guhlke's four kills. The Loggers had just five kills in game four. Whitworth collected 63 kills in the match and the Loggers had 41. Whitworth amassed 97 digs, with seven players registering double-digits in digs. Puget Sound collected 82 digs on the night. CSTV/AVCA poll, remains undefeated in Northwest Conference play with
a 5-0 NWC record and is 9-2 overall. The Bucs play at defending NWC
champion PLU on Saturday. The Loggers drop to 3-2 in the NWC and 6-3
overall. Puget Sound will play host to Whitman on Saturday. |
