Vander Meulen, Florence Named Academic All-District

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Senior right side hitter Nicole Vander Meulen and senior outside hitter Angie Florence have been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII College Division Volleyball team, which was announced today.

Vander Meulen (Mt. Vernon, Wash. - Mt. Vernon Christian) was selected to the First Team, while Florence (Yucaipa, Calif. - Yucaipa) was a Second Team honoree.

Vander Meulen, who will graduate this spring with a degree in business management, carries a 3.97 grade point average. She started 16 of the Pirates 27 matches, appearing in a total of 26. She averaged 1.63 kills per game, and finished with a hitting percentage of .148.

Florence led the Pirates offensively, averaging 3.42 kills per game and was second on the team with a .155 hitting percentage. An elementary education major, she has a GPA of 3.73.

The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.

Vander Meulen is now a candidate for CoSIDA's College Division Academic All-America volleyball team.
