East Bay def. #20 Whitworth 30-14, 30-20, 33-31 The nationally-ranked Pioneers (2-0) easily controlled the first two games, hitting .419 in game one and holding the Pirates (1-1) to a -.075 attack percentage in game two. The Pirates held the lead for much of the third game and appeared headed to a fourth set before the Pioneers rallied late to take the game and match in extra points. outlasting a young Whitworth team still trying to find its rhythm. Whitworth
(1-2) was flat or in negative attack percentage in two of their three
games, while Southwestern hit .327 for the match, including .400 in
game two and .438 in game three. While Whitworth succeeded in keeping
things in arm's length in game one, Southwestern held the steady advantage
in games two and three. Lauren Arrowood led Southwestern with 15 kills,
while Jewel Thomson had a double-double of 11 kills and 11 digs. Nikki
