This venture of the Weyerhaeuser Center began in response to the fact that there are many small rural churches within a 200-mile radius of Spokane. These churches serve their immediate communities in profound ways despite their limited access to resources and services; rural ministry, when compared with urban and suburban ministries, has its own unique challenges and broad range of unmet needs. We hope that people all over the country who are engaged in various expressions of rural ministry will find this website a useful resource. Its primary purpose is to provide basic information regarding grant and training opportunities, research findings, schedules for conferences, meetings and events and networking links with other people, organizations, and institutions engaged in rural ministry. Our hope is that with this website and the ongoing development of the Weyerhaeuser Center at Whitworth, we can be a source of helpful information as well as a catalyst for more effective outreach ministry to rural clergy, laity and congregations in the Pacific Northwest. Please feel free to contact me or our staff with questions or suggestions. Blessings, Dale Soden, Ph.D.
