Anticipated graduation year: 2011 Major(s): Marketing, with visual communications minor Hometown: Idaho Falls, Idaho Whitworth activities/clubs that you’re involved in: Cultural Diversity Advocate, International Club Publicity Officer, International Justice Mission Campus Chapter Publicity Officer, Business Student Organization, Annual Hawaiian Club Lu'au performance, intramural volleyball and soccer, piano teacher Favorite book: Marketing of Evil, by David Kupelian Favorite quote: "Happiness keeps you sweet, trials keep you strong, sorrows keep you human, failures keep you humble, success keeps you glowing, But only God keeps you going!" We’d be surprised to know that… I grew up in a home where three languages were spoken daily – Mandarin, Cantonese and English. Also, I’m an Institute for International Public Policy Fellow. Favorite thing about Whitworth: The attention each student receives from the professors because of the generally small campus and class size. Favorite professor and why: All of my professors are amazing; I’d choose Richard Schatz because he is very personable and easy to relate to. He is very passionate about what he teaches (economics) and that rubs off on his students. He incorporates current information in his lectures, which makes it very interesting, and he loves learning from students about their cultural backgrounds and cultural knowledge that he can include in future lectures. Best class and why: Marketing. Brad Sago is a great professor and gets very excited about marketing. He made the class so that you wanted to learn more. The class is one of the reasons why I’m a marketing major. My best Whitworth moment or experience and why: Being a cultural-diversity advocate my sophomore year made it one of the best years ever! I made friends who were from Sri Lanka to The Netherlands, from Honduras to France. The international students truly opened my eyes to the rest of the world. I even got to go on a super fun Portland trip with the international students and International Club. Activities/clubs/events that students shouldn’t miss and why: Come be a part of the International Justice Mission campus chapter and help raise awareness of the more than 27 million people still enslaved in the world today! The Whitworth Fun Run and Triathlon are also great to be a part of. Also, don’t miss out on the International Banquet! What I plan to do after graduation: My dream would be to work in cooperation with China through government or corporate means because of my knowledge of the Chinese language and passion for my Chinese heritage. If I don’t work for a private corporation, I would love to work in the U.S. Foreign Service to promote communication and goodwill between the U.S. and other countries. In the future, I hope to help IJM continue to spread the word about the terrible injustices people around the world are facing today and about how everyday civilians can assist IJM in defeating these evils.
