Conditions of Contract
I. Community Values and Behavioral
Expectations Whitworth University strives to be a
residential community and, as such, has prescribed for itself
a number of behavioral parameters prohibiting illegal drugs,
alcohol, non-marital sex and disruptive/destructive behavior.
These parameters apply to all members of the Whitworth
community and their guests while they are on campus. (See
Student Handbook for detail of all policies and violation
consequences.) Whitworth does not discriminate in its
educational programs, hiring practices, or housing policies on
the basis of race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin,
or physical disability.
II. Reservation of Rooms
Students who cancel their room
reservation on or after June 1 will be charged $250, with the
exception of all incoming students new to Whitworth.
Students in the room where one occupant has cancelled before
the 10th day of classes of the term may lose the room to
someone on the building’s waiting list and be assigned to
another residence hall. Please
Initial Here: (required)
III. Occupancy (Please refer to the
Whitworth Housing Policies section of the Student Handbook for
complete details)
- Students are required to live on campus for at least two
years after their high school graduation. All other students
are subject to established selection priority rules and to
the availability of space.
- The Housing Office reserves the right to reassign
individuals to different rooms or residence halls at any
time during any term and the right to use space in any
residence hall that is not paid accommodation space. Even if
space is available in other rooms, a resident who refuses
any roommate will be billed the single room rate listed
above.
- All quad rooms, including Boppell and Stewart Hall
suites, must remain at 100% occupancy. If a resident moves
out and a new roommate isn’t found by the remaining
occupants, these residents may either move out, or together
pay for the space left vacant at the rate listed above.
- Room changes may only be applied for through the
Resident Director after actual
occupancy and after the 10th academic day of each
semester. Failure to follow this procedure will
result in a $25.00 fine and, in addition, can potentially
result in the student being charged for two (2) room spaces
simultaneously.
- Students living in rooms that have a private or
semi-private bathroom (e.g. Duvall, Boppell, theme houses,
and other residence halls with apartments) are required to
regularly clean their bathrooms. Standards for cleaning are
found at www.whitworth.edu/bathroomcleaning.
Students who do not adequately maintain their bathrooms
regularly throughout the semester as determined by
university staff may be issued a charge of at least $40.00.
IV. Damages and Losses
- The student is responsible for all damages and losses,
beyond normal wear and tear, which occur to or in the room
in which the student is assigned. All such damages and
losses will be charged to the student on the basis of an
estimate of labor and materials cost.
- The Dorm Damage Deposit Account was created from the
student’s confirmation fee. It is held until the end of the
student's final semester at Whitworth or whenever the
student moves out of Whitworth-owned housing. At that time,
a request from the student may be made to have the remaining
amount credited to his/her account after he/she has
graduated or moved off campus.
- All or portions of the Dorm Damage Deposit may be used
to replace missing furniture or items, or repair any damages
found in the room after the student has vacated. It may also be used for residence hall
vandalism or damage that cannot be assessed to an
individual. Resident students may be held corporately
responsible for damages and losses, which occur in the
lounges, hallways, and other common areas of their residence
facility. Charges that are higher than the available deposit
amount will be charged to the student’s business office
account in addition to the deposit account.
- The student is responsible for all keys, which are
assigned at the time of checking into his/her room. The charge to replace a key is $50.00 and
must be paid in full at the time a new key is issued.
- Personal-Property Insurance: The
university does not carry insurance to cover, and in no way
accepts responsibility for, personal articles and
possessions. Whitworth strongly encourages students to
purchase personal-property insurance. Click here
for more information about personal-property insurance.
V. Vacation Closings Two
(2) times per academic year all students will be required to
leave the residence halls.
- Winter Break will begin
at 10:00 a.m. on
December 15, 2012 and

after closing that a student remains in the residence hall and
a $20 charge for re-entry into a closed residence hall to
retrieve an item. Students are not allowed to be in the
residence halls early without permission from the Housing
Office. Moving in early to the residence halls will result in
at least a $100.00 charge plus a $75.00 per night charge. If
you require access into the residence halls during the breaks,
contact the Housing Office. Being in the residence halls
before they are open without permission from the Housing
Office will result in a $100.00 charge.

rooms on September 3, 2012 between
10:00 a.m. and
2:00 p.m. Halls

September 1, 2012,
only for those students who are new to Whitworth.
Students are not allowed to move in early to the residence
halls without permission from the Housing Office. Moving in
early to the residence halls will result in at least a $100.00
charge plus a $75.00 per night charge. If you require to move
belongings into the residence halls before the designated
check-in time, contact the Housing Office. Moving belongings
into the residence halls before check-in without permission
from the Housing Office will result in a $100.00 charge. With
permission from the Housing Office, belongings may be moved in
early, but some charges may apply.
VII. Checkout
- The residence halls close at 10:00 a.m. on
May 18, 2013.
Again, there is a $10.00 charge for 15 minutes after closing
that a student remains in the residence hall. Whether at the
end of the academic year or at some other time during the
year, all students moving off campus or to another room are
expected to check out with a resident assistant. Failure to comply will result in an improper
checkout fee of $50.00.
- The student is responsible for leaving the room in a
clean and orderly fashion at checkout. The student will be
charged for any cleaning, any replacement of missing
furnishings, or any repairs, which are necessary after
checkout.
VIII. Contract Termination
This contract is for housing for the term(s) indicated

percentage of the room fee as described below. If the student is a returning resident, he/she
may also be subject to the $250 charge listed in Section
