William Paul: Native Heritage at Whitworth College
This is a short biography of William Paul, who graduated from Whitworth in 1909. During his lifetime, Paul overcame great racial differences and dedicated his life to the cause of native rights in the United States, especially for his own people, the Tlingit Indians in Alaska. He is known as the father of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and for many other accomplishments throughout his life. He was an attorney for natives in Alaska, and became the first Indian American elected to the Alaska House of Representatives.
