A Great Beginning
George Frederick Whitworth was born in Boston, England on March 15, 1816. He came to the United States in 1828 with his parents, Matthew and Suzannah Whitworth, and his sister Emma. At the early age of seventeen he ventured to South Hanover College located in Indiana. After he graduated, he married Mary Elizabeth Thomson from Louisville, Kentucky.
