Whitworth’s First Books
(Whitworth Library in the 1930s located in McMillan Hall) When Whitworth was located in Tacoma the library collection included books from the Mason Library. These books were already at the library and the college added 5,000 books to that collection. When the college moved to Spokane, it was only allowed to take the 5,000 books that were brought into the collection. Aubrey L. White, a trustee at Whitworth, would not take the small library and held a book drive during 1915-1916 which added up to 8,000 volumes to the small library.
