Student Library Policies
Circulation Policy
- All students must present their current ID to borrow from
Whitworth University Library.
- Books: 28 day circulation period. Three renewal periods may
be requested.
- Periodicals (back issues): 7 day circulation period. No renewals
are permitted.
- Periodicals (current): Do not circulate and are kept in the
reading room for Library Use Only.
- Music CD's: Do not circulate - Library Use Only.
- Videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and Audiotapes: Do not circulate - Library
Use Only. These materials are found in the audiovisual area (ITMS).
- Reference Materials: Library Use Only.
- Microforms: Library Use Only.
- Daniel's Photography Collection: Library Use Only. Ask
our library staff for assistance.
- Special Collections and Archival Materials: Library Use
Only. Ask our reference staff for assistance.

Overdue Policy
- Overdue charges are $.25 per day per item. Reserve material fees may
vary.
- Two overdue notices are e-mailed as reminders to return or renew.
- A third notice is mailed at 25 days overdue declaring the book lost.
A replacement fee and a process fee is charged to your acount. The replacement
fee only is waived with the return of the overdue item. Failure to return
materials results in the blocking of your borrowing privileges and a
billing to your student account.
Renewal Policy
- Three renewals may be made over the phone, in person at the circulation
desk, or on-line using your patron record assessible through the on-line
library catalog. Late renewals are subject to the overdue policy stated
above. Items that have hold/recall requests attached to them will not
be renewed. Please call the circulation desk at 509.777.4200 with
questions on policy or to renew by phone.
Other Services Available for Students
of Whitworth
- Reference and Research Assistance: Answers for general reference
questions, assistance with research projects, and help with the library
catalog and databases is available at the reference desk.
- Interlibrary Loans: Materials unavailable at Whitworth may
be borrowed from other libraries through our interlibrary loan system.
Ask our library/reference staff for assistance.
- Reserve Materials: Reserve materials are items that faculty
has put aside for students in their class. These materiasl have specified
check out periods. A list of current reserve holdings is at the circulation
desk or availble on-line through the library catalog. Your ID card is
required to borrow reserve items. Late fees are charged at $.25 per
hour per item for 1, 2, 3, and 4-hour reserves and $2 per day per item
for 1, 2, 3, and 7-day reserves. Please be considerate of your classmates
and return reserve materials on time.
- Supplies: Dry erase markers are available for check out at
the circulation desk. You can also borrow whiteout, scissors, gluesticks,
rulers, and a calculator. Overhead transparencies may be purchased for
$.35 each.
- Typewriters: Typewriters are located on the second floor and
are serviced by the computer lab assistants. Please ask them if you
need help.
- Fax Service: You may send and receive faxes at the library.
Local calls are free. Long distance is $1 per page and international
is $2 per page. Our fax number is 509.777.3221.
- Copiers: Copies can be made for $.10 per page. Copy cards can
be purchased for $1 with 10 pages. The card is rechargable for $.07
per page. A color copier is available for $.50 per page. A stapler,
scotch tape, three-hole punch and paper cutter are available at the
work counter by the copiers.
- Browsing Room: This enclosed reading room is on the main floor
and houses the current newspapers, the back issues of newspapers, and
the most recent copies of magazines and journals. These are for in Library
Use Only. Back issues of periodicals are found on the second floor
of the library.
- Study Rooms: Quiet study rooms are available on a first come,
first serve basis. Groups of two or more have priority over individuals.
Reservations are permitted for one study room at any given time. Inquire
at the circulation desk for more information or to make a reservation.
