Whitworth Employee Killed in Elevator Accident
A Whitworth College employee died early Thursday morning in an elevator accident while working in the Eric Johnston Science Center on campus.
David L. Wright, a member of Whitworth's physical plant general trades and maintenance staff, had worked at the college for 20 years. He was 50.
"This has been a real blow to members of the campus community, many of whom have known and worked with Dave for years," said Whitworth President Bill Robinson. "We are doing everything we can now to help family members and co-workers get through this very difficult time."
A special chapel service was held Thursday for the campus community. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church adjacent to the Gonzaga University campus. A funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Frank Costello, S.J. and he will be assisted by Terry McGonigal, dean of the chapel at Whitworth, and Roger Mohrlang, Whitworth religion professor. A luncheon/reception will follow in the Washington Room of the COG on the Gonzaga University campus.
Memorial contributions can be made to the David Wright Scholarship Fund at Whitworth (300 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, WA 99251) or the Lilac City Dog Training Club (1612 E. Houston, Ave., Spokane, WA 99217).
