Chaminade Trio to Perform in Concert

Whitworth College's annual concert series, "Women Composers: The Untapped Source VII," will feature the Chaminade Trio, with Nola Allen on piano, Peggy Bardarson on violin, and Carol Graef on violoncello. The Chaminade Trio will perform piano trios composed by Cecile Chaminade, Rebecca Clarke and Carol Sams.

Sams, who will attend the concert and then meet with Whitworth students the following day, studied composition with Darius Milhuad at Mills College and William O. Smith at the University of Washington. She earned a doctorate in composition at the University of Washington and since then her works have been performed throughout the United States and Europe. While most of Sams' works are for voice, including several operas and two oratorios, she composed Piano Trio in 1998 as Washington State Music Teachers Association's Composer of the Year.

The "Women Composers: Untapped Source VII" concert will take place Sunday, March 18, at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall at Whitworth College. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 777-4583.
