Decisions Lecture Series to Feature Feb. 27 Lecture
The 46th annual Great Decisions lecture series at Whitworth College features five speakers who focus on political, cultural and economic subjects of interest to the international community. The program explores issues Americans can expect to encounter in a post-9/11 world.
The second lecture of the 2003 series will feature Vijaya Pavani, who will address "Women and Human Rights." The lecture will take place Thursday, Feb. 27, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Music Building Recital Hall at Whitworth College. The lecture is free and open to the public. The lecture series background book, Great Decisions 2003, is available at the Whitworth Bookstore. For more information, please call (509) 777-3270.
Pavani currently teaches English to new immigrants at the Adult Education Center in Spokane. A strong advocate of women's education, she is a guest faculty member at Sri Padmavati Women's University. Pavani was the first female news correspondent for All India Radio (NPR) in her home state in India. As a news correspondent, she covered a variety of issues ranging from politics to poverty summits, and produced special programs on the historic women's movement against arrack (cheap liquor) in India. Pavani later served as news editor for the South-East Asia News Bulletin.
