Whitworth Exhibit to Feature New Works by Art Professor Emeritus Pauline Haas

NW LakescapeNew works by Pauline Haas, Whitworth College art professor emeritus, will be featured in an exhibit, "The Big and the Small of It." The exhibit, which includes oil paintings, pastels, mixed-media creations and drawings, will be displayed Feb. 3-28 in the Koehler Gallery at Whitworth College. Gallery hours are 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. Admission is free.

An artist's reception will take place on Friday, Feb. 7, from 5-7 p.m. in the Koehler Gallery. Haas will discuss her work at 6 p.m. during the reception. For more information about the exhibit or opening reception, please call (509) 777-3258.

Haas taught art at Whitworth for nearly 20 years; she retired in 1986. She was also an art professor for five years at Spokane Falls Community College. The name for Haas' exhibit, "The Big and the Small of It," is based on the size of the works being displayed: the pieces range from 3x3 inches to 40x48 inches. Haas says the works are "landscapes as metaphor" and are expressions of her response to the death of her husband and recent personal development and growth she has experienced.
