Whitworth Kicks Off Westside Golf Classic Sept. 13 at Golf Club at Newcastle
Building on the strong success of the Whitworth Golf Classic in Spokane and the college's growing presence in Western Washington, Whitworth is hosting the inaugural Westside Golf Classic, Sept. 13, at the Golf Club at Newcastle.
The tournament, featuring a four-person, scramble format beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m., will be followed by a dinner and program with Whitworth President Bill Robinson. All Whitworth friends and alumni are invited to participate. Cost is $250 per person with proceeds benefiting Whitworth College athletics. For more information or to register, please contact Susan Meyer in the Whitworth Department of Athletics at (509) 777-3224 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Fifteen years after initiating our annual Spokane tournament, we're taking the show on the road to Seattle," says Whitworth Director of Athletics Scott McQuilkin. "Like the choir concerts and the Core 650 program, the Whitworth Westside Golf Classic offers another great opportunity for Seattle-area alumni and friends to make connections with one another and with the college. Anyone who has been on campus in recent years has seen the many improvements in our athletics facilities that have been funded by proceeds from the golf tournaments."
McQuilkin points out that the Spokane golf tournament has grown to nearly 200 players, including many who travel from the West side of the state and who are eager to participate in an event in the greater Seattle area. In addition, the Westside Golf Classic coincides with the annual Whitworth President's Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the Bellevue Harbor Club. For information on the president's breakfast or to register, contact Nancy Rau at (509) 777-4250 or email@example.com.
"What is neat about the Westside tournament is that participants can attend the president's breakfast that morning at the Bellevue Harbor Club, hear from Bill Robinson, then get in their cars, drive up the hill to the beautiful Golf Club at Newcastle, and see Bill stripe his drive on the first hole," McQuilkin says. "We've got a great group organizing the event with some wonderful sponsors and prizes. We're looking forward to a great tournament."
