Whitworth Hawaiian Club to Host 34th-Annual Luau April 3
What: The Whitworth Hawaiian Club, Na Pu'uwai o Hawaii (The Heart of Hawaii), will share Polynesian food and culture with the Spokane community during the club's 34th-annual luau, April 3. This year's luau theme is "Ka Huaka'i Mo'oku'auhau," which means "A Journey through History."
The luau will feature a menu of authentic Hawaiian cuisine and an evening of Polynesian dancing. Hawaiian Club members will prepare and serve food shipped directly from the Hawaiian Islands. The menu will include kalua pig (roasted pork), lomi lomi salmon, chicken luau, teriyaki beef, poi, chicken long rice, pineapple cake, rice pudding and haupia, a coconut dessert. Menu items will be prepared under the supervision of 2002 Whitworth alumna Lezlie Aano.
Following the meal, an entertainment program will feature Hawaiian Club members who will perform dances that originated in New Zealand, Samoa, Tahiti and Hawaii. Specially made products from Hawaii will also be on sale at the club's country store.
When: Saturday, April 3. Doors open and dinner begins at 5 p.m.; entertainment begins at 7 p.m.
Where: Fieldhouse at Whitworth College, 300 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, Wash.
Tickets: $15 general admission; $13 Whitworth students with ID; $8 children 6-12 years old; children 5 and under are free.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Information Desk in the Hixson Union Building (HUB) at Whitworth. The Information Desk is open Sunday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-11 p.m. and Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Tickets will also be on sale at the entrance of the HUB dining hall Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m.
