Whitworth String Orchestra to Perform in April 21 Concert

The Whitworth College String Orchestra spring concert will feature a light and uplifting musical selection, including pieces by Grieg and Mozart. The concert will take place Wednesday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Seeley Mudd Chapel at Whitworth, and is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (509)777-3280.

During the concert the orchestra will perform Symphony No. 5, in B Flat Major, by Franz Schubert; members of the Whitworth Brass and Wind Symphony will join the string orchestra to perform this piece. Other selections will include Mozart's String Quartet in C Major, K. 157, and the first movement of String Quartet No. 1 in G Minor by Edvard Grieg.

"This will be a concert of classics," says conductor Roberta Bottelli, who directs the string program at Whitworth. In addition to conducting the string orchestra, Bottelli teaches private cello lessons, recruits music students, and coaches the string quartet.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The college enrolls 2,200 students in more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs.
