to Host Annual Taste of Japan Dinner
In conjunction with Spokane's annual Japan Week celebration, the community is invited to share the delicacies of Japanese cuisine at the Taste of Japan dinner hosted by Whitworth College. The dinner, prepared by Japanese students, will take place Tuesday, April 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hixson Union Building catering rooms at Whitworth. Tickets are $8 for adults and students, and free for children under the age of 3. Ticket sales are limited to 60; to R.S.V.P. and purchase tickets, please call (509) 777-4282.
The Taste of Japan menu will include sushi, Japanese pork curry, teriyaki chicken, green salad with a variety of Japanese dressings, and ice cream with green-tea powder. Some of the sushi may have tuna or imitation crab, but none of the sushi will be served with raw fish. Whitworth's Japanese students and members of the college's International Club will greet guests and serve the meal. Food will be served buffet style. The Japanese students will wear their traditional yukatas, which are similar to kimonos, and are made of cotton and primarily worn in the summer.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The college enrolls 2,200 students in more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs.
