Whitworth Athletic-Training Alumnus Named Appalachian League Trainer of the Year

Tyson Burton, a 2001 graduate of Whitworth's Athletic Training Education Program, was named the 2005 Athletic Trainer of the Year for the Appalachian League.

Burton was honored by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers' Society in acknowledgement of his work for the Danville Braves of the Atlanta Braves Minor League Baseball System. The vote was conducted by the team trainers of the Appalachian League at the conclusion of the 2005 baseball season.

Burton is now an assistant athletics trainer for the sports-medicine program at the College of William & Mary, in Williamsburg, Va. He joined the sports-medicine staff in September at the conclusion of the Danville Braves' baseball season. Burton is responsible for sports medicine for the William & Mary women's basketball and baseball teams; he is also the insurance liaison for the sports-medicine department.
