Whitworth Chamber Ensembles to Perform in Dec. 8 Concert

The Whitworth chamber ensembles will perform in a concert on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., in the Music Building Recital Hall at Whitworth College. The ensembles include the chamber winds, brass quintet, saxophone ensemble, and trombone ensemble. Admission is free. For more information, please call (509) 777-3280.

The trombone ensemble will perform Suite for Trombones, by Peter Atherton, and the Whitworth Chamber Winds will perform works including Little Symphony for Winds, a setting of music by Franz Schubert.

"All of the students in the program are members of the Whitworth Wind Symphony," says Richard Strauch, associate professor of music and director of the Whitworth Wind Symphony. "The Whitworth Chamber Winds is a newly established ensemble of 10 players who also comprise the wind section of the Whitworth Orchestra, and whose mission is to explore music written by major composers for small wind ensembles."

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts college affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The college enrolls 2,400 students in more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs.
