Japan Week Luncheon April 26 to Feature Presentation by Consul General of Japan
The Whitworth College School of Global Commerce & Management is sponsoring a business luncheon featuring Kazuo Tanaka, Consul General of Japan from the Consulate General of Japan, in Seattle, Wash. During the luncheon, Tanaka will address "Japan-U.S. Relations in Asia Pacific." The luncheon will take place Wednesday, April 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Mukogawa Fort Wright Commons, 4000 W. Randolph Road. The luncheon fee is $15. RSVP by April 21 to (509) 777-3242.
Tanaka's luncheon presentation is part of Spokane's Japan Week celebration, April 22-29; this is the 14th year Whitworth has sponsored the business/community luncheon.
Tanaka has held many embassy/minister positions throughout the world, including First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan Malaysia 1989-1994 as well as the same position in Nigeria, 1999-2001. He has also served as consul at the Consulate General of Japan in Toronto, Canada, as well as special coordinator for the Minister's Secretariat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Japan.
Tanaka earned a B.A. in Spanish, Hispanic studies and economics in 1969 at the Faculty of Foreign Studies at Sophia University, in Tokyo; he studied Malay and Malay studies at the University of Malaysia from 1969-1971. Tanaka has also served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Foreign Studies at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.
