Whitworth student Anna Monroe was recently named the 2006 Oregon Dairy Princess. Monroe, who is studying education, athletic training, and health and fitness at Whitworth, is taking off the fall semester to fulfill her duties as princess. In her role she serves as ambassador for Oregon's dairy industry; is spokesperson for milk, cheese, ice cream and other products; and explains the process of milk production at the Oregon State Fair.
Monroe is busiest during the school year, when she visits elementary schools and gives presentations to the students.
"My longest day was giving 17 12-minute presentations," Monroe said in a News-Register article. Monroe also works with older students when she participates in Sodexo Farm to Market events.
According to the News-Register, Monroe is also interning with the Oregon Department of Education and is a volunteer at a 4-H camp. She participated in 4-H for nine years, showing dairy animals at county and state fairs, and was named Yamhill County Dairy Princess in 2005.
