Six Whitworth Singers Place at National Association of Teachers of Singing Auditions
Four Whitworth University music students won first place and a total of six students placed in their respective divisions at the Inland Northwest Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing auditions, held Nov. 2-4 at Central Washington University, in Ellensburg.
Nineteen Whitworth students competed against students from colleges and universities throughout Idaho and Washington. Following are the names and graduation years of the six Whitworth students who placed in the auditions: Ellie Vergowe, '10, and Joseph Jolley, '08, both back-to-back first-place winners, having won first place in their respective divisions in 2006 and 2007; Molly Mason, '11, and Eric Hagreen, '11, first place; Tyler Kruse, '11, second place; Ryan Gerhard, '11, third place.
The singers are students of Whitworth music faculty members Marjory Halvorson, Darnelle Preston and Scott Miller.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The university, which has an enrollment of 2,600 students, offers 53 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
