Whitworth Women's Choir to Perform in Concert April 27 at St. Augustine Church

The Whitworth Women's Choir concert, "Deo Gracias!," will be directed by Deborah Hansen, associate director of choral activities and music department chair at Whitworth University. Accompanists will be Bonnie Robinson and Whitworth junior Mac Merchant, piano; Leslie Stratton Norris, harp; Cheryl Carney, cello; and Whitworth seniors Nathanael Ankeny, saxophone, and Jacob Hildebrand, guitar.
The concert program will feature songs from A Ceremony of Carols. Composed by Benjamin Britten for treble choir and harp, A Ceremony of Carols is one of the great choral masterworks of the 20th century. The final song from this work is "Deo Gracias!" (Thanks be to God).
The Whitworth Women's Choir, founded in 1997, is a select choir whose repertoire includes sacred and secular music from diverse eras and styles. Choir members represent all class years and a variety of majors at Whitworth. The women's choir has performed at St. Augustine Church each spring since 2001.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The university, which has an enrollment of 2,600 students, offers 53 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
