Whitworth Women's Choir to Perform in Concert April 26 at St. Augustine Church

The Whitworth Women's Choir concert, "Amazing Day," will be directed by Deborah Hansen, associate director of choral activities and music department chair at Whitworth University. Guest artists will include Bonnie Robinson and Mary Trotter, piano; Dawn Wolski, soprano; and Whitworth students Maya Lewis, flute, and Linnea Pearson, oboe.
The program title is taken from the opening line of American composer Gwyneth Walker's I Thank You God, a setting of the e.e. cummings poem, "i thank you God for most this amazing day." The concert program will include Mass No. 6 by György Orbán (Hungary), Salut Printemps by Claude Debussy (France), Kevadkillud by Veljo Tormis (Estonia), and various folk hymns and gospel songs.
The Whitworth Women's Choir, founded in 1997, is a select choir whose repertoire includes sacred and secular music from diverse eras and styles. Choir members represent all class years and a variety of majors at Whitworth. The women's choir has performed at St. Augustine Church each spring since 2001.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). The university, which has an enrollment of 2,600 students, offers 53 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
