Named 2008, 2007 and 2010 Northwest Conference Coach of the Year. Named 2010 NABC West Region Coach of the Year. The 2009-10 season was one of the best yet at Whitworth. The Pirates' 25-game winning streak set a school record and led the NCAA at all levels, finished unbeaten in the Northwest Conference (16-0), claimed their fourth straight NWC tournament title and made their fourth consecutive NCAA DIII tournament appearance.
Serves as NABC Division III Congressman for Northwest Conference. Published an article, "Efficient and Effective Offensive Post Play," published in the spring issue of American Basketball Quarterly (2004).
Wrote guest column about parenting and youth sports for the Spokesman-Review (2008).
As chief assistant coach at Azusa Pacific University, Hayford helped lead the men's basketball team to seven consecutive conference championships and an overall record of 185-53; the team reached the NAIA Division I Final Four in 1998 and '99.
Member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (1991-present). Member of the NCAA Regional Advisory Committee for Men's Basketball West Region. As director of athletic development at the University of Sioux Falls, Hayford founded the Cougar Athletic Foundation, which increased annual giving to USF athletics from $20,000 to more than $180,000 in a two-year period. As director of athletic development at APU, Hayford founded the Cougar Athletic Association and was named the 1996 NACDA-NAADD Fundraiser of the Year in College Athletics.
