Dr. Friends specialized in global service operations, leadership development and cross-cultural management during his corporate career of 25 years.  He is a passionate builder of workplaces that excel in customer mindset, employee engagement and has been recognized by Aon Hewitt Associates for building best places to work.  Having lived in six countries on four continents, 50% of his career has involved international business working for American Express, Bank of America and Pitney Bowes. Dr. Friends has a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Gonzaga, a Masters in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Business (Thunderbird), a BA in Sociology and a BA in Speech Communication from State University of New York College at Cortland. Recently Dr. Friends was awarded the U.S. State Department Critical Language Scholarship for Chinese language study and was selected to be an Ambassador for the program. He will return to China in 2014 to lead the Whitworth in China semester program at Minzu University, Beijing.

Served as keynote speaker for the Asia Human Resource Development Congress. Received the Washington State Governor's recognition for promotion of Diversity in the Workplace for building Pitney Bowes' Workfirst Program. Serves as advisory board member for the Spokane Regional International Trade Alliance.
