Commencement Week Activities for Undergraduate Degree Candidates

Friday, May 14
TBA ROTC Commissioning Service, Seeley G. Mudd Chapel, Whitworth. This ceremony celebrates participants' transition from ROTC status to service as commissioned officers in the U.S. Army. All are welcome. To RSVP or for more information, contact Lt. Col. Alan Westfield at 509.323.6517, or call Jeanne Hayes at 509.313.6512 by May 10.
6-7:30 p.m. Reception honoring Whitworth Continuing Studies bachelor's-degree and teach certification candidates, Hixson Union Building (HUB), Multipurpose Room. An opportunity for students who obtained their degrees and teacher certifications through the Whitworth in the Evening Continuing Studies Program to mingle with fellow students, faculty and administration. No charge for students, $5 for each guest. RSVP required at 509.777.3222.
6 p.m. English Department Senior Reading, Weyerhaeuser Hall, William P. Robinson Teaching Theatre. Celebrate the works that graduating English majors have created in their capstone class. Students on the writing track will read their poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction, while students on the literature track will briefly share their portfolios through an audiovisual presentation.
8 p.m. Senior Communion and Commissioning Service, Cowles Memorial Auditorium. All seniors, parents and guests are invited. This worship service includes faculty and student reflections on shared experiences of Christian faith, as well as the opportunity to pray for the members of the Class of 2010. Communion will be served.

 

Saturday, May 15
10 a.m.-noon Senior Art Exhibit, Lied Center for the Visual Arts, Bryan Oliver Gallery. Closing reception begins at 11 a.m.
11:30 a.m.-
1 p.m.
Buffet for undergraduate candidates, families and friends, HUB, Multipurpose Room, $7 per person. Please pay at event.
3 p.m. Senior Honors Recital, Seeley G. Mudd Chapel, Whitworth. Musical performances by members of the Class of 2010.
8 p.m.

Senior Reflections, Cowles Memorial Auditorium. Everyone is invited to enjoy a showcase of senior class talent. Many of the university's awards for outstanding seniors will be presented here, along with the annual senior slideshow, a Whitworth tradition. This event is free of charge.

 

Note: Mind & Hearth, the coffeehouse in the HUB, will be open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

The bookstore will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, and from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday.

 

Sunday, May 16
10 a.m. Baccalaureate Service, Whitworth Fieldhouse. Free childcare in the fieldhouse is available by advance reservation.
11 a.m.-1 p.m. Brunch for graduates, families and friends, HUB Dining Hall, $7.50 per person. Please pay at event.
3 p.m. Commencement for Undergraduate Degree Candidates, Spokane Arena, 720 W. Mallon Ave. Open seating. Free childcare is available at the arena during the ceremony. There is a fee for parking at the arena.
