Designated Gift Priorities

The Whitworth 2021 Vision and Strategic Plan charts an ambitious course that includes more than $150 million in capital, endowment and program funding priorities, many of which are outlined below. It is Whitworth's grand mission that we hope to serve and strengthen with these initiatives. And it's Whitworth's mission that we call on our friends and donors to support as you have faithfully done since 1890. So, we seek your financial gifts -- not ultimately for facilities, financial aid or faculty salaries -- but to equip students to "honor God, follow Christ and serve humanity."

Scholarship Endowment

Whitworth is consistently ranked a best value among regional universities in the West, but the university competes for students against institutions that are publicly funded and have much larger endowments. A major segment of the Whitworth budget is committed to financial aid, with more than 95 percent of students receiving some sort of assistance. Increased scholarship endowment would provide needed budget relief and flexibility and would also help ensure that an education of mind and heart remains affordable for students from all socio-economic backgrounds.

Performing Arts Facilities

Plans for this facility include a remodel and addition to the existing music building, nearly doubling the current square footage. Features include a 650-seat concert hall for Whitworth's music ensembles and guest artists and new rehearsal spaces for choral groups. At a total project cost of over $20 million, the facility will create a significant presence on Hawthorne Road.

Science Research and Equipment Endowment

The science research endowment funds the purchase and maintenance of laboratory equipment, matching funds for competitive research grants, and training to increase the level and integration of research in the sciences. The endowment would also be designed to provide permanent funding for a summer science-research program being piloted with eight faculty-student teams in 2006-07 under a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust.
