BYU-Hawaii Shoots Past Whitworth 83-64

LAIE, Hawaii - Brigham Young - Hawaii shot 61%, including a blistering 76% in the second half, to sprint past visiting Whitworth 83-64 in a non-conference women's basketball game on Friday night.

Cassie Pilkinton led Whitworth (1-1) with 18 points and six rebounds. Tiffany Corigliano added 14 points, while Leah Pomante dished a team-high six assists.

Heather Burke's three-pointer gave the Pirates and early 13-8 lead, but the Seasiders went on a 15-3 run to go up 23-16 with just under six minutes to play in the first half. BYU would eventually stretch the lead to 38-25 at halftime.

The NCAA DII Seasiders, behind hot shooting all over the floor, continued to stretch the lead in the second half. BYU made five of eight three-pointers after halftime and eventually led by as many as 34 points (76-42) before Whitworth close the gap in the final minutes of play.

The Pirates will conclude their trip to Hawaii on Saturday with a game at Hawaii Pacific at 6:30 p.m. (HST).
