Game 1 - Whitman 72, Washington Univ. 60 (box score and play by play) Tournament MVP Michelle Krall prevented any chance of a comeback by the 9th-ranked Bears (4-3) when she scored all 19 of her points in the second half to keep the Missionaries (6-0) undefeated this season. Krall hit five of nine from three-point range and grabbed six of her seven rebounds after halftime. Whitman point guard Jenele Petersen added 16 points and four assists, while Hilary White added 10 points. While Krall was silent in the first half, her teammates more than picked up the slack leading to a 28-19 Whitman lead at halftime. The Missionaries jumped to a 13-1 lead seven minutes into the game and White made a pair of threes to key the run. Whitman extended the lead to 22-7 on another three by White before the Bears managed to claw back to within 24-17 on a short jumper by Zoe Unruh. Janice Evans made a free throw early in the second half to pull Washington within 32-25, but Krall sparked a 9-2 run with a pair of treys and the Missionaries never led by less than 10 points the rest of the game. Whitman gained its largest lead (67-45) on Krall's lay up with just under five minutes to play. Unruh led the Bears with 17 points. She was the only double-figure scorer for Washington. 2008 NBC Camps Whit Classic All-Tournament Team: Michelle Krall (Whitman, Jr., F) Go to Athletics Home Page > Women's Basketball > Sports Releases > |
