SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth University ran to victory at the Runners Soul Bigfoot Open on Saturday morning at Spokane Falls Community College, while the Pirate men took home third place in the meet.
Dana Misterek (Fr. Gig Harbor, Wash.) led the Whitworth women with a 3rd place finish, running the five kilometer course in 18:38.7. Jo E Mayer (Jr., Spokane Valley, Wash.) was 5th with a time of 18:44.5, while three more Pirates finished 8-10 to give the Bucs five of the top ten runners. Kathryn Williams (So., Santiago, Chile) was 8th (18:52.7), Jenna Cunningham (Sr., Central Point, Ore.) was 9th (18:55.9), while Tonya Turner (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) was 10th (19:01.5). Johanna Olson of Bigfoot XC Club won the race in a course record 17:37.6. The final team scores were: Whitworth 35, CC of Spokane 46, Lewis-Clark State 64, Bigfoot XC Club 126, Whitman 131, Carroll College 143. JDak Riek of Bigfoot XC Club won the men's race with a time of 25:34.1 over eight kilometers, 33 seconds off of his own course record. The final men's team scores were: CC of Spokane 38, Lewis-Clark State 50, Whitworth 67, Bigfoot XC Club 72, Carroll College 151, Flathead Valley CC 182, Whitman 185. Nick Gallagher (So., Bedford, Iowa) led the Pirate men with a third place finish with a time of 25:41.0. Aaron Jenkins (Fr., Pocatello, Idaho) was 11th in 26:09.6, while Dusty Caseria (Jr., Bellingham, Wash.) finished 14th in 26:25.5. Jamie Daroff (Sr., Clearfield, Utah) was 19th (26:42.2), followed closely by Tyler Dudley (Fr., Salem, Ore.) in 20th place (26:46.7). The LCSC men are ranked 10th in the NAIA's most recent poll, while the Warrior women are ranked 12th. Whitworth will now take two weeks off before traveling to Walla Walla on November 1st for the Northwest Conference championship meet.
