Three Others Receive Honorable Mention Consideration SPOKANE, Wash. -- Brandon Martin became a three-time First Team All-Northwest Conference honoree in football, leading a group of seven Whitworth University players named to the 2009 All-NWC Football Team. Click here for the entire All-NWC team. Martin (Sr., DT, Sweet Home, Ore.) was joined on the first team by Jeff Kintner (Sr., OT, Wenatchee, Wash.) and Zack Clow (Jr., P, Blanchard, Idaho). Layton Brown (Jr., LB, Kennewick, Wash.), Jeff Erlenmeyer (Jr., DE, Moses Lake, Wash.), Cailen Thomason (So., DB, Vancouver, Wash.) and Michael Nahl (Sr., OG, Seattle, Wash.) were second team selections. In addition, Eric Entel (Sr., WR, Clarkston, Wash.), Nate Hadley (Sr., LB, Mukilteo, Wash.) and Emilio Sulpizio (So., C, Spokane, Wash.) received honorable mention recognition.
Martin led the Pirates, and finished tied for second in the conference, in total tackles for loss this season. He accumulated 12.5 tackles for losses totaling 38 yards. Martin finished the season with 46 total tackles, four pass deflections and two fumble recoveries. Kintner, who has been a starter since he was a freshman and has been the starting left tackle for three straight seasons, was selected to the All-NWC First Team for the second straight season. Clow led the NWC in punting with an average of 37.8 yards per attempt with a season-long of 55 yards. He was twice selected as NWC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Brown led Whitworth in total tackles this fall with 69, 44 of which were solo. Among his tackles were 5.5 tackles for losses of 20 yards. Erlenmeyer was third on the team with 53 tackles and had six tackles for losses of 18 yards. Thomason had 45 tackles, tied for the team lead with three interceptions and led the Pirates with six other passes defended. Nahl has started for three straight seasons as the strong side guard for the Pirates after transferring from the University of Washington.
Entel led the Pirates with 45 receptions for 571 yards and four touchdowns this season. Hadley had 35 tackles for the defense. Sulpizio completed his second season as Whitworth's starting center. The Pirates finished the year 5-5 overall and 3-3 (tied for third place) in the NWC. |
