SPOKANE, Wash. - Defending champion Linfield College survived a hard second-day charge by host Whitworth University to win the 2007 Northwest Conference Men’s Fall Golf Classic today at the Spokane Country Club. The Wildcats finished with a two-day score of 300-304 – 608. The Pirates, who entered the day in fourth place, totaled 311-297 – 608.
Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran won the individual medalist honors with a final total of 69-74 – 143, leading the co-runners up by five shots. Jordan Carter (76-72) of Whitworth and Tyler Nelson (73-75) of Linfield each shot a 148. Carter’s (Sr., Woodinville, Wash.) 72 was the best round of the second day. Andrew Parrot (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.), James Dykes (Jr., Royal City, Wash.) and Connor McCracken (Fr., Eagle, Idaho) all tied for 9th with two day totals of 154. Ryan Young (Fr., Mill Creek, Wash.) shot a 160 and Patrick Dorsing (So., Royal City, Wash.) scored 167. Linfield now gains eight points toward the final NWC golf standings, while Whitworth scores seven points. The NWC Fall Classic counts 25% toward the final conference standings. The NWC Spring Classic will count 25%, and the end-of-the-year NWC Tournament will count 50%. Last season the Wildcats won the fall event, but we ultimately overtaken at the end of the season by the Pirates, who won their third straight conference title. Click here for complete final results.
