SPOKANE, Wash.- Bryan Olson and Caleb Barnhill have been recognized by regional college sports information directors for excellence on the field and in the classroom and have been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division men's soccer team.
The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing. Barnhill (Sr., F, Sultan, Wash.) has 3.63 grade point average as a biology major. He leads the Northwest Conference this season in goals scored (10) and total points (22) and two of his goals (at Linfield, home vs. PLU) have been game-winning goals. He has started all 16 matches this season. Olson (Jr., D, Missoula, Mont.) is a mathematical economics major with a 3.81 grade point average. He has led the Pirates in total minutes played each of his three seasons. As a defender he has helped Whitworth post a team goals-against average of 1.07. This pair has helped the 14th-ranked Pirates post a record of 12-2-2 this season, with three matches remaining.
