SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University men's soccer coach Sean Bushey has been chosen by his peers within the Northwest Conference as NWC Coach of the Year for the fourth time and Caleb Barnhill led eight Pirate players as part of the 2008 All-NWC men's soccer team.

Bushey, the winningest and longest-serving coach in Whitworth men's soccer history, picked up his NWC Coach of the Year award after leading the 2008 team to a second straight Northwest Conference title and a spot in the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament. The Pirates won their fourth title in the last five years and fifth since 2001. Bushey had previously been named NWC Coach of the Year in 2001, 2004, and 2007. His record is 156-71-26 in 13 years at Whitworth. Barnhill (Sr., F, Sultan, Wash.), the 2008 NWC Offensive Player of the Year, was one of three Pirate men were named to the All-NWC First Team. Three Whitworth players were Second Team selections and two other players received honorable mention consideration.
Barnhill and John Prugh (Sr., F, Bozeman, Mont.) are First Team All-NWC forwards. Travis Jette (Sr., D, Missoula, Mont.) is a First Team defender. Barnhill led the conference in total points (28), points per game (1.40), total goals (13) and goals per game (0.65) this season. He had a team-high three game-winning goals, including the only goal in a 1-0 win at Linfield and a late score in a 3-2 win over PLU on September 28th. Prugh finished the season with seven goals and tied for the team lead with five assists. He was tied with Jette, who also had one goal.
Bryan Olson (Jr., D, Missoula, Mont.), Cameron Bushey (Fr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) and Eddy Prugh (Fr., MF, Bozeman, Mont.) were Second Team selections on the 2008 team. Olson, a center back, is Whitworth's leader in minutes played each of the last three seasons. Bushey had four goals and four assists from his spot in the middle of the Pirates' line up. Prugh totaled seven goals and three assists as an attacking midfielder.
Ben Rotert (Sr., D, Bozeman, Mont.) and Elly Bulega (Jr., F, Tacoma, Wash.) were honorable mention honorees in 2008. Rotert shared center back responsibilities with Olson and the two were important parts of Whitworth's 0.89 team goals against average. Bulega finished second on the team with eight goals.
