SPOKANE, Wash.- Zac Semago scored forty seconds into double overtime to lift visiting University of Puget Sound to a 1-0 win over 8th-ranked Whitworth University in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon. Semago's golden goal handed the Pirates (6-1-1 overall, 2-1 NWC) their first loss of the season. The Loggers improved to 3-3-1, 1-0-1. Defense dictated play on Saturday. Though the Pirates had 16 total shots and the Loggers had 11, each team could only work for three total shots on goal. Each team had six corner kicks. Alex Leheka was able to put a pair of shots on goal for UPS in the first half, but Brian Sherpe (Fr., GK Centennial, Colo.) saved both shots. Greg Saetrum also made two first half stops in goal for the Loggers. Whitworth had two strong scoring chances late in regulation. Travis Jette (Sr., D, Missoula, Mont.) worked a give-and-go with Eddy Prugh (Fr., F, Bozeman, Mont.), but his shot went high. Ben Rotert (Sr., D, Bozeman, Mont.) had an open look after a free kick just outside the top of the box, but his shot went just outside the right post. The Loggers had possession to open the second overtime and worked the ball into Whitworth territory. A throw in was crossed through the box, where Taylor Hyde took possession, worked around a defender and found Semago, who one-timed the shot past Sherpe at 100:40. Whitworth will host Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. UPS will travel to play first place Whitman College (5-0-4, 3-0), a 2-0 winner over PLU on Saturday.
