SPOKANE, Wash.- Eddy Prugh scored three goals to lead Whitworth to a 6-0 rout of visiting Willamette in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

Prugh posted a hat trick for the Pirates

Prugh (Fr., F, Bozeman, Mont.) also had an assist for seven total points, the highest single game total by a Pirate since Brian Hein scored four goals for eight points against George Fox in 2000. Niko Varlamos was the last Whitworth player with a hat trick, scoring three in 2005 at Pacific (Ore.).

Whitworth (10-2-1 overall, 6-2 NWC) dominated the match, outshooting the Bearcats (2-9-1, 1-6-1) 21-8, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. Mark Bennett made four saves for Willamette, while Jeff Srock (Jr., GK, Colbert, Wash.) only had to make a single save for the Bucs.

John Brookover (So., MF, Boise, Idaho) got the Pirates on the board in the fifth minute when he scored off of an assist by Joey Mattina (Jr., MF, Missoula, Mont.), his third tally of the season.

Prugh then scored three straight goals. The first came in the 31st minute off of an assist by Cameron Bushey (Fr., MF, Spokane, Wash.). The second, in the 43rd minute, gave Whitworth a 3-0 halftime lead and was assisted by Elly Bulega (Jr., F, Tacoma, Wash.). Prugh's final goal, in the 51st minute, was assisted by Taylor Willi (Fr., MF, Grants Pass, Ore.) and was his fifth goal of the season.

Prugh assisted Chris Stibich (So., D, Marin, Calif.) in the 59th minute for a 5-0 Pirate lead. Caleb Barnhill (Sr., F, Sultan, Wash.) scored an unassisted goal in the 77th minute, his NWC-leading ninth of the season, for the final point of the match.

Whitworth, which holds a one-point lead (18-17) over Whitman (5-1-2) and Puget Sound (5-2-2) in the NWC standings, will host Linfield on Sunday. Willamette will play Whitman in Walla Walla and both matches are scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
