SPOKANE, Wash. -- Two Whitworth women's soccer players have been recognized by regional college sports information directors for excellence on the field and in the classroom and have been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division women's soccer team. Both Miranda Cosand and Penelope Crowe were named to the first team.
The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing. She has started every match for the Pirates this season and is second on the team in total minutes played (1,431). She has helped Whitworth post a total goals-against-average of 1.15. Crowe (Sr., F, Bellingham, Wash.) was a second team choice last season. She was selected to the first team this year with a 3.88 grade point average as a biology major. She has played 14 matches this year with three goals and three assists. This pair has helped the 15th-ranked Pirates post a record of 12-4-1 this season, with three matches remaining.
