Seven Whitworth Women Received All-NWC Consideration

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Four Whitworth players have been named to the 2008 All-Northwest Conference women's soccer team, while three other Pirates received honorable mention consideration. The 2008 All-NWC team was announced today.

Kelly Baker (Sr., D, Boise, Idaho), Lindsey Oakes (Jr., MF, Boise, Idaho) and Whitney Ramsey (Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) were First Team All-NWC honorees. Elizabeth Mattila (So., F, Ferndale, Wash.) was selected to the Second Team.

Baker is now a two-time first team selection for the Pirates. She was named NWC Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 3) while leading the Pirates to four straight shutouts at the end of the season. She also finished with five goals and three assists in 2008.

Oakes, who was a second team choice last season, totaled six goals and four assists for the Pirates to share the team lead in goals scored. She was also the Bucs' leading goal scorer a year ago.

Ramsey also finished with six goals and four assists for Whitworth this season, the best offensive output of her career. She was the NWC Offensive Player of the Week on November 3rd.

Mattila came on to lead the Pirates in assists this season (7) and also scored five goals. She moved to forward from defender after the start of the conference schedule.

The group of Pirates selected to the honorable mention list includes Miranda Cosand (Jr., D, Maple Valley, Wash.), Emily Rohde (So., F, Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Kara Tisthammer (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.).

Cosand led the Pirates in minutes-played this season and was a big reason for a 0.98 goals-against average.

Rohde scored five goals and added two assists, while Tisthammer had three goals and six assists.

Whitworth finished the season 15-4-1 overall and 11-4-1 (second place) in the NWC. The Pirates were ranked among the top-25 teams in the weekly NSCAA/adidas Division III coaches poll all fall.
