Complete box score

NEWBERG, Ore.-- Emily Rohde scored with just under nine minutes remaining to lift Whitworth to a wild 3-2 win at George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

Krzymowski had a goal and assist Sunday

Rohde (So., F, Lake Oswego, Ore.) powered home a corner kick by Lindsey Oakes (Jr., MF, Boise, Idaho) to give the Pirates (8-3-1 overall, 4-3-1 NWC) a sweep of the weekend trip to Oregon and a leg up on the Bruins (8-4, 4-4) in the conference standings.

Neither team had a great chance to score in a scoreless first half. George Fox did manage to put three shots on goal, but Callie Bergstrom (Fr., GK, Spokane, Wash.) stopped all three tries.

The Pirates opened the scoring early in the second half. After Whitworth secured a corner kick, Oakes sent the corner to the middle of the box, where Whitney Ramsey (Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) headed the ball across to Jenny Krzymowski (So., F, Gallup, N.M.), who headed the ball to Kelly Baker (Sr., D, Boise, Idaho), who headed the ball into the net in the 48th minute. It was Baker's second goal of the season.

But in the 55th minute George Fox's Nicole Akiu drew a foul in the box and the Bruins were awarded a penalty kick. Jenny McKinsey converted the attempt to tie the match.

Whitworth appeared to retake the lead two times in the following minutes. Krzymowski headed a ball just over the cross bar, and another goal was called back by an offsides ruling.

The Pirates did eventually retake the lead when Baker sent a long pass forward to Krzymowski, who beat a defender and the keeper to the ball before sliding it into the net in the 60th minute for her first goal of the season.

However George Fox tied it again when Akiu sent a corner to McKinsey, who headed the ball to Sophia De Graff, who finished for her first goal of the season in the 63rd minute.

The winning goal was set up by another Pirate corner, of which Whitworth had an 11-3 advantage during the match. Oakes' ball went into a mix of players in front of the goal and Rohde was able to direct it into the net with her midsection, her team-leading fourth tally of the season.

Bergstrom finished with seven saves in the match, while Sally Page made three stops for George Fox.

Whitworth returns home to host Willamette (Saturday) and Linfield (Sunday) in a pair of conference matches next weekend that mark the beginning of the second half of the NWC schedule.
