The 12th-ranked Pirates (14-4-1 overall, 10-4-1 NWC) strengthened their chances for a second place finish in the NWC and kept alive hopes for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. The Bruins fell to 12-7, 8-7.

Mattila (So., F, Ferndale, Wash.) set up Tisthammer (Sr., F, Spokane, Wash.) in the 11th minute by dribbling past a defender and centering the ball to Tisthammer, who beat George Fox keeper Sally Page for her third goal of the season.

Page kept the Bruins close in the first half by making seven saves as the Pirates outshot George Fox 16-1 in the period, including an 8-1 edge in shots-on-goal.

Mattila scored the clincher when she pounced on a loose ball just to the right of the Bruins' goal and fired into the net for her fifth goal of the year. Tisthammer had sent the ball in for the assist.

Whitworth finished with a 27-3 edge in shots as the Bruins had a hard time possessing the ball in Whitworth's half of the field. Whitworth keeper Callie Bergstrom (Fr., Spokane, Wash.) did not have to make a save while posting her sixth shutout of the season.

Whitworth will host Pacific on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. to close the regular season. The Bruins will travel to Whitman on Saturday for their final match of 2008.
