PORTLAND, Ore.-- Despite a clear advantage in shots, shots-on-goal and corner kicks, Whitworth could not find the net on Saturday evening and fell 1-0 in overtime at Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference women's soccer contest. The Pirates controlled possession during vast stretches of the match, but could not score against Pioneer keeper Kate MacDougall, who made six of the team's eight saves. Whitworth outshot L&C 15-6, including an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. The Pirates had 10 corner kicks and allowed none. But the Pioneers' Natalie Stratton scored the match's lone goal with 52 seconds left in the first overtime period to give L&C the win. Brittany Larson and Renda Nazzal had assists on the play. Callie Bergstrom (Fr., GK, Spokane, Wash.) made three saves for Whitworth. Lindsey Oakes (Jr., MF, Boise, Idaho) and Penelope Crowe (Sr., F, Bellingham, Wash.) each had three of the Pirates' shots. Whitworth will return to Oregon next weekend to take on Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday and George Fox on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon. |
