SPOKANE, Wash.-- Ellen Seagraves had a goal and an assist to lead Whitworth to a 4-1 win over Linfield in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

Seagraves had a goal and assists for the Bucs

Unlike the first meeting between the squads, there would be no need for a miracle comeback or overtime as the 16th-ranked Pirates (10-3-1 overall, 6-3-1 NWC) swept the season series against the Wildcats (4-10, 2-8).

Elizabeth Mattila (So., F, Ferndale, Wash.) scored the Pirates's first goal in the 16th minute. Linfield keeper Kelsey Hasselblad made a save on Mattila's first shot, but could not control the ball and Mattila pounced on the rebound to score her second goal of the season.

Lindsey Oakes (Jr., MF, Boise, Idaho) gave the Whitworth a 2-0 lead in the 33rd minute when she gained possession outside the top of the box, dribbled around a defender and fired over Hasselblad for her fourth goal of the season.

Seagraves (So., F, Missoula, Mont.) set up the Bucs' third goal of the match when she drove hard outside the left edge of the box and crossed to Allie Smith (Fr., F, Missoula, Mont.). Smith fired the ball inside the left post for her second goal of the year in the 49th minute.

Seagraves then finished up Whitworth's scoring in the 67th minute after Mahyo Seyedali (Sr., Kirkland, Wash.) sent a pass forward and Seagraves beat Hasselblad for her second tally of the season.

Linfield got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute when Emma Triplet sent a long, high pass toward the Pirate box and Sarah Walton beat Whitworth keeper Callie Bergstrom (Fr., GK, Spokane, Wash.) to the ball and headed it into the net for her fourth goal of the season.

Hasselblad finished with five saves for the Wildcats and Bergstrom did not have to make a save for the Pirates, who had a 9-1 edge in shots on goal.

The teams' first meeting on September 20th was an overtime affair in which Whitworth did not tie the match until the final minute of regulation before winning 2-1 in the first overtime.

Linfield suffered a blow before the match even started when Steph Caster was injured during warm-ups and was taken from the starting line-up and never was able to appear in the match.

Whitworth will travel to Tacoma to take on Pacific Lutheran (Saturday) and Puget Sound (Sunday) next weekend. Both matches are scheduled to start at noon. Linfield will play at Lewis & Clark on Saturday.
